Sierra looked at the market at the time Larry 6 (CD) was released and concluded that CD burners were too expensive to pose much of a threat to software developers/publishers. Al has a statement on his website to this effect. However he concludes: Once again, I was proved wrong! Indeed he was but whether it actually contributed to a sales downturn or not for the game is another matter!

There was a small downside to this : with no copy protection mechanisms in place the player had no 'interesting' manual searches for clues/numbers or other devious information bite we'd become accustomed to!
